Our love for dogs is part of who we are

Pukerau Kennels was established before 1993, with Rae and Marty owning it for the past 25 years. I, Sonja Hansel, have had the privilege of taking over from them as the new owner.

There are nine large exercise yards for the dogs, all securely fenced and grassed for animal protection and enjoyment. The team at Pukerau Kennels & Cattery can select the perfect playmates for your pet, or can
exercise separately if required.

Our building has under floor heating with individual controls for each run to cater for your dog’s unique requirements. The building is very well insulated which keeps it cool on hot days, and lovely and warm through those cold winter months! Each dog is housed separately – even during our busy times. If you own two dogs they are welcome to share accommodation, and we are able to provide separate beds for them, or one large bed if they like to snuggle up together. Your dog may prefer its own bedding so please feel free to bring it along.

All dogs are exercised 2 - 3 times daily in our large grassy yards, usually for 2 hours each time, weather permitting. Exercise is normally in social groups, with groups chosen according to the individual temperaments of the dogs. Walks down our quiet country lanes are also a firm favourite with our guests.

Dogs are fed separately in the comfort and safety of their individual accommodation. If you own two dogs who share accommodation, we are able to feed them separately if required. Our main meal is a premium brand of food (Nutrience Biscuits)

What we feed
Nutrience kibble, Chunky Dog Roll and of course Tux biscuits and chicken tenders as treats which is an all-time favourite for the dogs.

Our charges: As of 1st of April 2025
Small dogs   housed inside with underfloor heating   $28.00 per day
Med /Large dogs housed inside with underfloor heating   $31.00 per day
Small outside dogs…fully covered kennels        $26.00 per day
Med /Large breed….outside kennels                   $29.00 per day
Entire dogs and bitches…there is an extra charge of $3.00 per day.

A surcharge of $8/pet/day applies on Public Holidays. The full charge will still be applicable even if your pet is picked up in the morning.

How we charge……………….you pay for the day the animals are dropped regardless of what time slot, and you pay for the day the animals are picked up unless you are out before 10 am then there is no charge for that day, except for the public holiday surcharge if applicable.

NOTE:
Due to over booking during the holiday season, we often have to turn down many requests for boarding.

For bookings over the Christmas/New Year period we ask for a "non-refundable deposit" to secure a spot in our kennels.

These terms apply from 15 December - 15 January.
